WHAT IS THE JUPEB PROGRAM ALL ABOUT?

Everything to know about the Jupeb Program
We frequently notice a pattern in the questions people ask when they call us with questions about the Jupeb Program. Such as:
JUPEB: HOW DOES IT WORK?
HOW DO I APPLY FOR JUPEB?
WHAT IS THE JUPEB CUT-OFF MARK?
What distinguishes JUPEB from the IJMB?
WHEN WILL JUPEB FORM BE AVAILABLE?
WHEN DOES JUPEB FORM CLOSE?
CAN JUPEB BE USED FOR OVERSEAS STUDIES?
What Jupeb really means is a question that candidates and parents frequently ask. And that is the one with which we will begin.
WHAT IS THE FULL MEANING OF JUPEB?
Jupeb simply means JOINT UNIVERSITIES PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION BOARD.
From the meaning of the words that make up this name, you will realize that Jupeb is not only for a single school. Over 80% of Universities in Nigeria, including Federal, State and Private, are in affiliation with Jupeb.
The Jupeb Program, as we know it today, since 2013, has been in existence. But a consortium of 10 Universities, led by the University of Lagos, officially and formally established the program in 2014. And since then, many other universities have joined in the partnership, which helps as many as possible gain admission into the university of their choice through Jupeb every academic year.
WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE JUPEB PROGRAM?
The purpose of this question is to help candidates better understand how the Jupeb Program operates. Recall that we previously stated that the University of Lagos served as the leader of the 10 Universities that joined forces to officially establish Jupeb in 2014? Now you can see that the Jupeb Program is under the control of the University of Lagos.
However, this does not imply that other affiliated universities lack their own autonomy. Every university has the right to manage their own Jupeb Program however they see fit, particularly in terms of tuition costs and who they admit into the 200-level at the program’s conclusion.
The University of Lagos controls the Jupeb Program, so what it does is oversee its administration. But strictly after consulting with other collaborating schools. Jupeb Exam dates, Jupeb Syllabus, and Jupeb result announcement are all tasks that fall under the purview of the moderating body.
HOW DOES THE JUPEB PROGRAM WORK?

Every academic year, a large number of SSCE graduates attempt to apply for the Jupeb Program. Many applicants who either failed the Jamb exam or do not want to take it turn to the Jupeb for admission. In addition, students who want to enroll directly at the university of their choice without taking the Jamb exam can apply for the Jupeb program. However, candidates might inquire about how the Jupeb program operates.
The JUPEB Program, like IJMB, requires applicants to choose any THREE SUBJECT COMBINATIONS that they must pass in order to be able to study the course of their choice. To study medicine and surgery, for instance, a prospective candidate must register for Jupeb Subjects in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology.
However, regardless of the course, the English Language is a requirement for everyone, so this is something that every candidate must understand. The English Language, being a General Subject, is for Science, Arts and Commercial students.
TO REGISTER
Now, if for some reason you are unable to register directly with the University of your choice for the Jupeb Program and you register with us instead, you will proceed to resume at the specific Study Centre that you have chosen or been posted to after completing your Jupeb Registration, either on our Jupeb Registration Portal or by visiting any of our Jupeb Centres.
You will be given lectures that strictly follow the Jupeb Syllabus for a full academic year. And at the end of the Jupeb Calendar, students will sit for their Jupeb Examinations. Successful candidates will then start the procedures specific to the University of their choice in order to gain admission into the 200-level after the Jupeb results are announced.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE JUPEB PROGRAM?
Before obtaining their Jupeb Registration Form, and in the course of making enquiries about the Jupeb Exam, many students want to know how long they will do Jupeb before gaining admission to the 200-level. Many parents that call us always ask, ‘how long is the Jupeb Program?’
Individual candidates must know that Jupeb requires you to attend classes for the period of one academic year before the final Jupeb Exam. And one academic year stretches between 9 and 10 months. But, most of the time, how long an individual spends depends on when they resume. There are some candidates who resume a month late into the program.
This does not mean that we advise candidates to resume late. It helps you as a Jupeb candidate when you resume early.
HOW MUCH IS JUPEB FORM?
If you remember, we said earlier that each Jupeb-partnering University has its own autonomy. So also all the other Jupeb Centres. As a potential candidate, if you do a survey today, you will realise different Universities have different amount they sell their Jupeb Form. Ranging from N25,000 to N10,000.
But for those who want to register with us, either through our Jupeb Online Registration Portal or by visiting any of our Centres, our Jupeb Registration Form is N10,000.

HOW MUCH IS JUPEB TUITION FEES?
As a candidate willing to register for Jupeb, to know how much you are likely going to pay as Jupeb Tuition Fees, you must first choose where you want to run your program.
This is because Jupeb Tuition Fees at Unilag are not the same as what they pay in Lasu. And this is the case with all Jupeb Schools and Study Centres.
It is advisable that you visit the Jupeb Website of whichever university you would like to run your program at if you have a particular school in mind.
But for those who want to register with an Affiliate Centre, then you have come to the right place. We have Jupeb Centres in different States nationwide. And the tuition fees in these states are not the same.
For example:
JUPEB CENTRE IN LAGOS IN IJAIYE: The Jupeb Centre in Ijaiye is the cheapest you will get in Lagos State. The school fees for our Jupeb Centre in Ijaiye, Lagos State, are between N260,000 and N310,000 in total. And this N310,000 covers accommodation, acceptance, text books, past questions, examinations, and tuition fees. It is the same with Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Warri, among many other states.

JUPEB CENTRES IN IBADAN AND ILORIN: for both Ibadan and Ilorin, our Jupeb fees are N290,000 in total. Like other states, this amount covers accommodation, acceptance, past questions, text books, examinations, and tuition fees.
And, note that candidates can pay on installment.
DO YOU NEED JAMB FOR JUPEB ADMISSION?
In order to be very sure, many students who are willing to register for Jupeb still call us to ask whether they are going to write Jamb again after or along with Jupeb. The answer is NO.
As a Jupeb candidate, you do not need Jamb.
The only way you may want to consider Jamb is if you want to give yourself another alternative for admission.
But, as far as Jupeb is concerned, you do not need Jamb.
Also, many potential candidates often call to ask whether they are eligible and qualified to register for Jupeb. Yes, you are.
The only thing you need for Jupeb is your O’level result. And those with an awaiting result can apply and begin classes for Jupeb. They just must make sure they have their O’level ready before the end of their Jupeb program.
WHAT ARE THE COURSES ONE CAN APPLY FOR IN JUPEB?
Some students about to register for Jupeb are often eager to know whether Jupeb offers admission for all courses, especially Medicine and Surgery. Or Law. Yes, Jupeb offers all courses.
The question that is very important is whether the university of your choice offers that particular course.
But in summary, you can use Jupeb to study any course of your choice, whether the course is a Science course, Arts, or Commercial.

WHAT IS JUPEB CUT OFF MARK?
When people ask what the Jupeb cutoff mark is, even before they register, we know it is out of fear and curiosity. They want to know whether they have a chance of passing the Jupeb exam and gaining admission to the 200-level at the end of their program.
You must know that Jupeb does not have fixed cutoff marks for courses. It largely depends on the course you want to study and the university where you wish to go.
For example, some universities will admit 11 points for medicine and surgery, while others may not go lower than 12 points.
As a potential Jupeb candidate, what you must know is that the total point that one can attain in Jupeb is 16, and that should be your target.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JUPEB AND IJMB?
Simply put, both Jupeb and Ijmb are similar in that they are both A-level programs and serve the same purpose.
One is able to gain admission into the university without writing Jamb, either through Jupeb or Ijmb.
But one major difference between Jupeb and Ijmb is that some universities do not identify with Ijmb.
Jupeb, more than Ijmb, is more popular among Nigerian Universities. Schools like Unilag, Lasu, Uniport, and OAU, to mention a few, only accept Jupeb for direct entry admission. They do not identify with Ijmb.
